Updates on DV-2027 Lottery
All new applicants for the DV lottery program 2027 will have to pay $1 for the registration fee while applying for the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery program. This fee will have to be paid electronically through the official State Department website. The $1 registration fee is separate from the Diversity Visa application fee.
Application Date Updates
Application Fee: Unlike previous years, application to the DV program will now require a $1 registration fee, non-refundable. This means applicants will have to pay this fee regardless of whether they are selected or not in the DV program. Also note that this is separate from the visa fee (processed only after getting the DV lottery).
DV Application Date: The application dates for the DV program 2027 have NOT YET been published. This means no one can apply for the DV program at the moment.
Expected Date: It is expected the new application date will open after October 16, since it could take a month or more to integrate the $1 fee announced on September 16, 2025.
Eligibility Requirements
Country of Birth: You can only join the lottery if you were born in a country that doesn’t send too many people to the U.S. (less than 50,000 in the past 5 years). Countries like India, China, Mexico, Brazil, Nigeria, and a few others are not allowed. If you were born in a country that isn’t allowed, you might still qualify if your husband/wife or parents were born in a country that is eligible.
Education or Work Experience: To qualify, you need either:
- Finished high school (12 years of school), or
- At least 2 years of work experience in the last 5 years in a job that requires training or skills (not just basic work).
Admissibility: You must be legally allowed to move to the U.S. This means no serious crimes, no dangerous diseases, and nothing else that would make U.S. immigration say “no.”
Family Members: If you get picked, you can also bring your husband/wife and kids under 21. They don’t need to meet the school or work requirements, as long as you do.
What to Do for Now?
- Wait till the official dates are announced.
- Prepare your card to pay the $1 fee for the DV application.
- Do not fall for scams — as of now NO DATES have been released, and there is no way to fill up the form.
